2023 Mercedes SL “New Light” Commercial

I worked as part of the compositing team at The-Artery on this ad. This is a one-month turnaround project, and I was assigned compositing tasks for 5 shots. Tasks include: matte painting compositing, inpainting, motion graphics, and some CG tasks.

Inversion (short film)

This is a freelance project I’ve been working on as a VFX artist / supervisor. There are ~15 VFX shots in this project with about half being CG heavy and half being compositing heavy.

0:15 Full CG environment, comp level volumetrics makes this shot versatile for client notes

0:18 Full CG environment, talent shot against green. Matching CG light sweep to on set lighting cues

0:01 / 0:38 / 0:53-end CG title sequence design

Fractals (short film)

This is a 2-3 week project from start to finish, as 1 out of 5 projects in my filmmaking class. I have a few people over to help me with rigging on-set, but I was responsible for writing/directing/editing/sound/vfx.

0:29 - 1:00 full CG connection between the end of shot 1 and the beginning of shot 2, both frames camera-solved with 2 sets of parallel lines and connected through the tried-and-true wipe. CG replica model was provided and matched to the on-set model, but FK/IK rigging/animation is custom.

1:44 - end live-action gimbal dolly flash-cut to a photoscanned corridor, connected with a kitbashed full-CG environment and ray-traced volumetrics.

Peter the Pigeon

This is an ongoing render series I’ve been working on in my down time. The story follows a pigeon named Peter, who is settling down in New York City. Everything you see here are full CG renders. Some of the assets used are digital replicas of cool objects I bumped into in real life.

This series focuses on CG miniatures, with a balance between real-life scaled objects (like the pizza holder chair and the face mask bed) and scaled objects (like the briefcase and the stacks of mini books).

Follow this mini-series @peterthenycpigeon on Instagram.
